Control Pathogens, ranging from Gram+ and Gram- bacteria to Fat-enveloped viruses.

Control pathogens
in- and around the animal

In the high-density livestock sector, the presence of pathogens in the gastrointestinal tract can lead to reduced reproductive and growth capabilities, increased mortality rates, and diminished profitability. Additionally, pathogens within the animal's environment pose an added risk. The variety of pathogens, from bacteria to fat-enveloped viruses, makes it challenging to devise a one-size-fits-all solution for pathogenic threats. Bextral provides a solution capable of managing both Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, as well as an approach for tackling fat-enveloped viruses.

Pathogens explained

GRAM-NEGATIVE BACTERIA

Gram-negative bacteria

Gram- bacteria typically have more complex inner and outer membrane structures, making disruption of the cell membrane more difficult. Still, glycerides can enter the bacteria like organic acids and alternate the DNA structure of the bacteria from the inside. After that, the cell loses its ability to produce invading proteins and will not survive.

Gram-positive bacteria

Gram-positive bacteria

Gram+ bacteria typically have a simple membrane structure. Glycerides and the molecules that construct the bacterial membranes look very much alike. Therefore, they can easily interfere with each other. This means that glycerides can disrupt the bacterial membrane after which it loses its structure.

Feed absorption

Fat-enveloped viruses

Besides their strong antimicrobial effects, glycerides possess strong antiviral properties and are effective against fat-enveloped viruses. Their mode of action disrupts the fat envelope after which the virus completely disintegrates. Evidence suggests that fat-enveloped viruses are, just like their microbial pathogenic companions, unable to develop resistance against glycerides.

Effective pathogen control

Pathogen control

Organic acids are widely used to reduce pathogenic pressure, but research has shown that glycerides of fatty acids have a much stronger antimicrobial effect. Above that, under certain viral challenges these glycerides have shown to be 8 times more effective than their fatty acid counterparts. Demonstrating their strength to control pathogens.

Reduce antibiotic usage

Reduce antibiotics

Limitations on the therapeutic use of antibiotics have escalated the need for solutions that don't rely on antibiotics. Bextral delivers feed additives engineered to manage pathogenic challenges. When Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGPs) aren't in play, pathogen control methods were put to practical tests. The findings show a marked increase in final body weight and a significant decrease in FCR. These results not only offer substantial economic benefits but also ensure the health and safety of both farmers and consumers.
